Well I managed to put this blog update off for a couple of days just to help get my blood pressure down and to recoup just a little bit. Wyoming, I hate you. Not in the way that I hate most things, thinking that eventually I'll learn to appreciate it or see the good in it. That just isn't possible with a state like Wyoming. In horse racing they often pair a champion with a loser horse so the champion can become accustomed to feeling good about himself and expecting himself to win. That's kind of how Wyoming is to the rest of the States. Any given state shines in comparisson with it. Why this outcry against Wyoming you may ask? Well, here it is. I have a strict no traveling across Wyoming policy in winter because frankly, it is hell frozen over. 80 mph winds, drifts as tall as your car and more semi's that any highway has a right to support. But feeling the need to honor my sweet Uncle Phil by attending his funeral I broke my own rule and packed Gage up for a little trip. Getting there was fairly easy and I really enjoyed seeing my family and spending time with loved ones. Gage chose this trip to completly abandon all sleeping habits and gave me several of the worst nights of my life. But it was all within what I thought my worst case senario might be on a trip. Till the drive home. Hoping to just get through the 10 hour drive without seriously damaging my relationship with Gage, I began to drive and upon crossing the boarder into Wyoming the trouble began. The weather forcast, which I had been watching carefully, called for a slight wind and no snow. Well turns out in Wyoming that means nothing. My first road closure came in Rawlings, 5 hours from home. Gage and I had to hang out in McDonalds for 4 hours with fellow travelers debating on whether to get a hotel room or not. The state claimed that the winds were too high on the road even though there was no snow. Finally the road opened up for a brief moment and I was able to slip through. I thought I might actually make it home before midnight even though I was already suppose to be home by that point, had everything worked out.
Well 2 hours later we hit Leramy. Just one more mountain pass and two more hours and we'd be home. Nope. They closed that highway too. There are even two different ways to get to Denver from there and both were closed. With the state promising the roads would not open again Gage and I got a cheap hotel room and tried to make the best of it. Gage is a super active kid and was terrible in the room with little to do. It was about 10 degrees outside so we weren't going out in it. I started to feel a little sick but just thought it was pregnancy combined with a long ride. Till I started throwing up that night. I had caught the same bug my sister and her family had. Gage continued to cry on and off in the night and I continued to throw up and that was about as crappy as it all got. Just terrible. I also want to insert that I had high hopes of getting through this pregnancy being able to boast that I hadn't thrown up once. Well I'm gonna still count it since it wasn't pregnancy related. Anyway, Gage of course wakes up at 5, miserable and not willing to go back to sleep and since we have no food we head to fast food for breakfast. I threw up before going just to make sure I could make it and by this point the temperature has dropped to 5 degrees. We managed to get the food, get back and crash in the room again. I just needed sleep but Gage was having none of it. I always heard the sweet stories of a mom getting sick and her darling child walking up and rubbing her back saying it would be alright. Not with Gage. He just wanted to make me suffer. So 11am rolls around and I have to make the call whether to keep the room for another night. The place was fully booked so if I let the room go there maybe wouldn't be one for me that night. It was a gamble that the road might open but I paid for another night just to be sure. At around 3pm the side road to Denver miraculously opened up and I didn't even care that they wouldn't refund me the money. We were off and even though it took us 4 and a half hours instead of the usual 2 hours to get home from there I was just glad to be coming back. So many people had been trapped that we averaged about 20 mph the whole way back. The supposedly bad road conditions were laughable. I had driven through worse on any given day when living in Idaho. So at around 8pm I made it home and had never been so relieved.
What should have been a 9 hour dive home had turned into 2 days with about 14 hours of driving and a lot of pointless waiting for roads to open. I will NEVER break my no driving through Wyoming in winter rule again! Ugh, and the worst part is that Gage refused to sleep last night and after about 3 hours of him screaming and at least 2 hours of me trying to rock him to sleep I finally fell asleep with him. Today is one of those days I can totally see why people abandon their kids. I couldn't care less about his feelings today. So I'm gonna go shopping for a super high powered fan, since ear plugs and a humidifyer don't work, and I'm gonna let him scream it out all night. I've got a baby on the way and he's just gonna have to man up! Plus it will keep him from being spanked in the night when my temper is paper thin and I don't want anything more than to just go to sleep. It's better for both of us. Well I know this was a total rant but I just seem to have some of the worst things happen to me so I just had to get it out. Wish me luck with the fan tonight and it anyone wants an active two year old for a month or so I'll consider a leasing plan. As in, I'll pay you.
